INTRODUCTION

Vivekananda Institute of Technology was established in the year 1997 by Janatha Education Society (JES) in its Silver Jubilee year. Janatha Education Society (JES) was registered in 1972 by 12 promoters from various walks of life. Under the society, 16 Institutions are functioning in the name of Swamy Vivekananda from four different campuses. Institution is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education. Undergraduate courses such as Electronics & Communication engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering & Information Science was offering by Institution. Currently Institution offers study and research including Bachelor of Engineering such as Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Information Science & Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. VKIT furnishes research centre in 5 areas of engineering disciplines.

AUDIT REPORT

The College follows the curriculum and academic calendar prescribed by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi. The college prepares specific academic calendar adhering the academic calendar prescribed by the affiliating University.  Course files have been maintained to ensure effective curriculum delivery.  Add-on / Certificate programmes are conducted.  OBE and CBCS system is being adopted.  PEO, PSO, PO and CO are defined. All Statutory committees are in place and functioning effectively. Numerous activities and events are conducted through NSS, Women Cell, and CICC etc. 

Appropriate steps to ascertaining student learning levels and suitable remedial measures are put into practice for slow learners. The advanced learners are encouraged to take up NPTEL, MOOCs courses. Effective faculty advisory system (mentoring) is in place. Faculty to student mentoring ratio is 1:18. The faculties are well qualified and competent and suitably supplemented by technical staff support. The faculty to student ratio is good. More than 25% of the faculty have doctoral degree and many more are pursuing their PhD.  Faculty publications in conferences were visible. Faculties are encouraged to attend workshops seminars/ FDPs. The institute regular faculty

recruitment to ensure effective and smooth conduct of the academic programmes and other related activities. Feedback from stakeholders is collected and analyzed. 

The infrastructure is adequate and augmented from time to time. Well-equipped classroom, laboratory and other academic facilities. High-speed internet connectivity is available in the campus.  The Library has comprehensive collection which includes 26,967 volumes across 6,435 titles. it also facilitates online access to e-resources.  A 100 MBPS internet leased line interconnects the entire campus through fiber-optic technology.  The students’ performance measured in terms of academic results is consistent of over 90% which is appreciable.  Continuous evaluation process is in place. The CIE is conducted through different methods like, assignments, presentations, projects, Quizzes etc. in each semester.  Parents-teacher meetings are conducted. The efforts of institute in strengthening the extension and outreach activities is evident through the outcomes achieved.

The institution adopts decentralized approach in all its academic and administrative functions. Apart from the staff members, students, Alumni and other stakeholders are also involved in many of the committees, which ensures participative environment within the organization.

 Observations and Suggestions:

  1. Clean, eco-friendly and peaceful campus
  2. Good academic performance of students in the university examinations.
  3. The number of students seeking admissions /admission ratio has substantially increased over the years
  4. Academic calendar to be prepared at department level following the affiliating University’s calendar
  5. The College has adequate infrastructure facilities for all academic activities. The infrastructure is well maintained. The library and IT facilities are also adequate.
  6. Good number of extension and outreach programs conducted by the institution
  7. The overall research culture in the College needs to be strengthened. The outcomes in terms of industry sponsored projects and consultancy needs to be improved.
  8. Measure to improve the Placement and higher studies numbers may be implemented.
