Brief Profile
Department of Basic Science and Humanities was established in 1997 in which the college was started. The current intake of the college is 390 students, The Department has highly qualified, experienced and committed faculty who have set good academic standards.

To strive hard to overcome the hindering forces in the minds of young technocrats and to catalyse technical activity, thereby directing a light beam for better making of country.
Program Outcome (POs)
PO 1. Engineering knowledge : Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
PO 2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.
PO 3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
PO 4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
Short term goals
Conducting workshops, FDP, organising guest lectures, Quiz, Debate, Industrial visits, Social camp for rural children, conducting swatch Bharath abhiyan programme, NSS camp to the students, Blood donation camp.
Long term goals
Conducting Conferences at national and international level, working for NBA, NAAC accreditation, Motivating research projects on public issues (such as health, environmental, waste disposal etc..), Publishing research articles in reputed journals, Make the department as an interdisciplinary activity centre.

Dr. D.V. Chandrashekar received his Ph.D degree from Bangalore University, Bangalore, Karnataka, India in 2004. He is currently working as a Vice-Principal, Professor and HOD in Department of Basic Science and Humanities, Vivekananda Institute of Technology, Bangalore. He is having overall Teaching experience of 19 years in Professional college besides guiding candidates for M.Phil and Ph.D Degree. His major research interests are in Advanced Fluid Mechanics. Linear Algebra and Optimization, Probability and Statistics and Computer Engineering. He has published Research Articles in reputed National and International Journals.
