Brief Profile

 

Vivekananda Institute of technology pioneers the Department of Information Science and Engineering in the year 1998 with the sanctioned intake of 60 students. Now the intake has been increased to 120 from the academic year 2024-25. The department has well equipped highly qualified dynamic faculty members. The department aims to achieve quality in education and excellence in knowledge management through innovations, problem solving, inter disciplinary collaborations and continuous improvement to meet the changing needs of society.

Good Practices

  1. Mentoring system for academic, carrier and personal guidance.
  • Keep informed about their wards regularity/Irregularity to parents.
  • Everyday Monitoring of Students Discipline (Dress Code, ID) and Sending Progress Report of students to their parents
  • Preparing students with right soft skills henceforth building confidence in them to face interviews and competitive exams.
  1. Department association isoft to promote co-curricular and extracurricular activities to inculcate working in groups and to develop leadership skills.
  2. Arranging seminars and workshops on cutting edge technologies to create awareness on recent happenings in IT-Industries.
  3. Regularly arranging industrial visit and promoting internships.
  4. Encouraging students to take up MOOCS to imbibe continuous learning.
  5. Use of ICT tools in teaching, learning and assessment.
  6. Arranging regular Parent Teachers Meet.
  7. Feedback system to assess the quality of teaching, facilities, institution from parents and faculty performance from students.

  9. Regularly organizing induction and orientation classes for students.

Program Outcome(POS)

  • Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  • The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  • Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  • Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

Short term goals

  • Design and implement network and web based computational systems under realistic constraints.
  • Design, Develop and Test software systems/products to provide solutions to real world problems.
  • Design efficient algorithms and develop effective codes.
  • Able to use and analyse the appropriate IT tools for the effective implementation of the projects.

SHORT TERM GOALS

  • To achieve excellence in education by obtaining very good results in university examinations.
  • To promote faculty and students to present and publish papers in conferences and journals.
  • To arrange national conferences and personality development workshop for students to improve technical and communication skills.

  • To establish research centre in the department to promote in house research and to get funding from various funding agencies.
  • To improve industry interaction programme to collaborate with industries.
  • To start postgraduate programme in information science.

Dr. P. Vanajakshi has completed her Bachelor degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Mysore University and Master of Technology and Ph.D in Computer Science & Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University in India. She is having total experiences of 22 + years. She has conducted various Training Programmes, Seminars and Workshops. She has published technical papers in various International conferences, Refereed Journals, Peer Reviewed Journals. She has also received best presentation and best paper award for her research work. She is the Life Member for ISTE, IAENG, and IE. Her area of research interests are Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Image Processing, Data Mining. She is currently working as  HOD, Department of ISE, VKIT
