Department of Information Science and Engineering of Vivekananda Institute of Technology, had organized a one day Industrial visit to C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing ) on 30th August 2017 for 5th and 7th semester students, located at Old Madras Road, Byappanahalli, Bengaluru – 560 038. Dr. Vidya A, Head of the Department, along with Prof. Ravindranath R C, Prof. Snehalata and Prof. Prashanth P have accompanied the students for the visit. The objective of the visit was to create awareness on the various activities related to super-computing facilities at C-DAC.
C-DAC, Bengaluru center, is the 2nd of C-DAC center’s to be established in 1989 to carry-out research and deliver solutions and products in the area of System Software for PARAM series of super computers of C-DAC. PARAM Padma, housed at C-DAC’s Terascale Supercomputing Facility (CTSF) is a result of its third mission project in High Performance Computing Technologies. The center is highly acclaimed as a center for excellence in the thematic areas of High Performance and Grid Computing, Cyber Security and Cyber Forensic, Professional Electronics, FOSS and Software Technologies, Language and Heritage Computing and Training.
Main Objectives of C-DAC Bengaluru are:
- Enhancing India’s role as a leader in Software Engineering and Allied Disciplines.
- To Carry out R & D in Software-intensive Systems and Technologies.
- To provide training & education in Software Engineering.
On visiting the C-DAC Campus, a video on the evolution of PARAM Padma, awareness on the computing facilities and research was presented. After this session, students were taken to the work facilities, where PARAM Padma super computer was installed. The technical officials of C-DAC briefed about the technical specifications and working of super computers. It took almost an hour to visit the complete set of PARAM Padma, followed by questions from students.
The industrial visit to C-DAC was an enriching experience for students in getting live exposure of super-computing facility which can help them in their internships and further career enhancements. The staff and students thank C-DAC officials for providing an opportunity to visit C-DAC. We express our thanks to our Principal, Dr. P Giridhara Reddy who permitted us to go on the visit.
