Report on Swachhta Pakhwada

Vivekananda Institute of Technology, has observed Swachhta Pakhwada from 1st  to 15th September 2017 as a response to a call by Ministry of Human Resource Development for participation from all Colleges/Universities/ Institutions in Swachhata Pakhwada, for spreading the message of cleanliness among the students and the surroundings. Pakhawada means a day-wise action of plans for a period of two weeks i.e., 14 days.

During this period campus was vibrant with various activities and events related to swachhata.  Principal Dr. P Giridhara Reddy along with Vice- Principal Dr. D V Chandrashekar, and Dr. Vidya A, Chief-coordinator, Swachhata Pakhwada have inaugurated the event and inspired the students to ensure cleanliness around them and the institution and run programs to sensitize all members, including faculty, staff and students to keep the surroundings clean. Many activities were conceptualized and carried out by various committees in order to spread the message of Swachh Bharat. Following events were conducted during Swachhta Pakhwada:

  • Clean Hostel Day and Clean Mess Day was held on  07/09/2017
  • Cleanest Hostel room Contest was held  on  08/09/2017
  • Elocution Contest on “Health and Hygiene is the real wealth” on 11/09/2017
  • Clean campus Day and Green campus Day—12/09/2017
  • Essay Competition on “Innovative ways for spreading the message of Hygiene” —13/09/2017
  • Distribution of certificates to winners and  participants of various events-15/09/2017

The initiative has received a great response and students have actively participated in all the events.  Each competition was evaluated by a committee consisting of heads of various departments and senior professors and selected a best presenter in each activity.

All the events and activities held will go a long in instilling the seeds of social responsibility in the minds of the leaders of tomorrow. These small steps being taken today will empower India to take giant leaps in the future.
